Partial project
DP 021
Bio-epoxy light-curable formulations for advanced laminates and composites
Project duration: January 1, 2026 – December 31, 2028
Principal investigator: SYNPO a.s.
Project objective:
The main objective of the project is to develop a one-component UV-LED-curable bio-epoxy system with a partially bio-based or recycled component, which will enable fast and deep curing without oxygen inhibition, high Tg and mechanical strength, low viscosity, and good rheological stability, while reducing the carbon footprint compared to conventional epoxies. The project also includes verification of the synergistic use of recycled polyols (from the PUR foam recycling project) as modifiers of the polymerization process. These polyols will contribute to accelerating curing by >20%, improving adhesion and toughness, and increasing the content of renewable and recycled components in the system.
Planned outcomes:
- Gfunk: Laminate panels with verified mechanical and thermal properties (6/2028)
- Ztech: Verified technology for a UV-LED bio-epoxy system (12/2028)
- O – other results: LCA study (12/2028)
- Ztech: Verified technology for modeling microfibril emission (12/2028)
- Gfunk: Functional sample with a defined content of recycled PUR polyols (12/2026)
- Gfunk: Functional sample of recycled PUR polyols suitable for integration into UV-LED-curable bio-epoxy formulations (12/2027)
- Gfunk: Functional sample of optimized PUR polyol components and UV-LED-curable bio-epoxy formulations (11/2028)
