DP 024
Tribo-electrostatic separation of plastic and other material shreds
Duration: February 1, 2026 – December 31, 2028
Principal Investigator: University of Technology, Prague Project
Objective: The goal is to optimize and test triboelectric sorting of various types of waste granules. The first objective is to optimize the repeated (multi-stage) separation of plastic mixtures to achieve better yield and higher purity of fractions, including the use of rapid analytical methods to determine the composition of the separated fractions. The second objective is to attempt the selective removal of halogenated plastics and additives from plastics that cause problems in subsequent recycling. The third objective is the separation of plastic mixtures and other dielectrics, such as glass fibers or other mineral components, targeting both specific waste samples and an attempt to verify the feasibility of separating selected construction waste. The final objective is an attempt at triboelectric sorting of mixtures containing plastics and electrically conductive materials.
Planned outputs:
• Gfunk: A functional sample for multi-stage separation of plastic mixtures to achieve better yield and higher purity of the separated fractions (3/2027)
• Gfunk: Functional sample for the removal of halogenated plastics and/or plastics with halogenated additives (9/2027)
• O – other results: A study on the triboelectric separation of plastic shreds and other dielectrics (e.g., metals or graphite) (3/2028)
• O – other results: A study on triboelectric separation of mixtures containing plastic shreds and electrically conductive components (e.g., metals or graphite) (8/2028)
• Ztech: Verified technology for triboelectric separation of mixtures of plastics and other materials (12/2028)
