DP 005
Triboelectric sorting of waste plastic granulate/grit
Principal investigator: University of Chemistry and Technology in Prague, Chemical Engineering Faculty
Project objective: The project aims to optimise the process of triboelectric sorting of plastic waste leading to the construction of a high-efficiency, experimental sorting plant.
Planned outcomes:
O – Systematic study on plastic waste charging – operating conditions (11–2023)
O – Systematic study on plastic waste charging in the presence of corona discharge and electric field (04–2024)
Gfunk – Functional sample of a charging unit with attachment for two-component mixtures (06–2024)
Gfunk – Functional sample of a charging unit with attachment for multi-component mixtures (03–2025)
O – Systematic study on plastic waste charging – design of charging attachments (03–2025)
Ztech – Verified technology for sorting multi-component plastic waste (11–2025)
A systematic study on charging of plastic waste (operating conditions) – contains a description of data on charging of plastics (HDPE, LDPE, LLDPE, ULDPE, PS, PP) using the charging attachments as follows: stainless steel, copper, PVC, PP, PMMA, PET, HDPE. The time dependencies of the charging were also measured, and for each pair of materials, the appropriate time for separation was determined. Among the laboratory methods, the vibration charging method was selected as a repeatable method.
