Partial project
DP 025
Recycling of Plastics and Cellulose from Rejects of the Pulping Process
Project Duration: January 1, 2026 – December 31, 2028
Principal Investigator: Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem
Project Objective:
The main objective of the project is to develop and validate a technology for the chemical recycling of paper-plastic waste generated during paper pulping, with an emphasis on the efficient material utilization of both the cellulose and plastic components. The project includes an analysis of the input material, testing of separation methods using dissolution and precipitation, and verification of the possibilities of direct processing via pyrolysis and mechanical recycling. It also includes an assessment of the removal of additives from the plastic fraction, a comprehensive comparison of individual approaches in terms of costs and environmental impacts, and the subsequent optimization of the selected technology to maximize the quality of cellulose fibers and the purity of plastics.
Planned outputs:
• Ztech: Technology for the chemical recycling of paper-plastic rejects from the paper industry with separation of the cellulose and plastic fractions (11/2028)
• Fuzit: Equipment for the chemical recycling of paper-plastic waste (11/2028)
• Gfunk: Liquid pyrolysis product from rejects for use in petrochemical production (12/2027)
• Gfunk: Recycled cellulose fraction from paper-plastic rejects (7/2027)
• Gfunk: Recycled plastic fraction from paper-plastic rejects (7/2027)
• O – other results: Summary report on the development and validation of chemical recycling technology for paper-plastic waste (12/2028)
